Tattoo Pain Chart Explained
Pain levels vary significantly depending on where you get tattooed. Areas with more flesh and fewer nerve endings tend to be more comfortable, while bony areas and spots close to nerves are typically more sensitive.
Generally, the outer arm, thigh and calf are considered lower-pain areas for most people. The ribs, spine, inner arm, hands, feet and neck tend to sit at the higher end of the scale. Everyone's pain tolerance is different, so these are guides rather than guarantees.
Session length also plays a role — the longer you sit, the more the area may become sensitised. Breaking longer pieces into multiple sessions is something your artist can advise on during consultation.
